Spirit of Life Midwifery Adopts Community Based Strategy to Improve Brand Image and Increase Competitive Advantage
Spirit of Life Midwifery is the creation of Miami midwife Sheila Simms Watson. This successful, very well respected and beloved Florida licensed midwife has been assisting women in home birth and water birth for over 11 years. -
Her existing website had outdated graphics, missing pages and a low visibility in search engines which made marketing and branding results equally inadequate. Her website simply did not portray her as the knowledgeable birthing expert that she is. Sheila related to us during our initial discussions that she was looking grow from practicing midwifery to a more instructional and advocacy role in midwifery. Her existing site was clearly not the vehicle for her ambitions with so few resources and incompleteness.
*Sheila related to us during our initial discussions that she wanted to broaden her customer base as her primary objective. It entailed engaging a stretch or growth market of families and women. Her traditional client base are women who are aware of and practice a alternative and holistic life styles and are active parts of this community and are the traditional demographic group for midwifery.
However, recent growth in the popularity of healthy life styles, healthy eating and trends in green living have opened the exploration of midwifery, homebirth and water birth up to a whole new group of women. This demographic group, tends to be between the ages of 20 to 37 (the prime childbearing years), well educated and active on the internet. In fact, they use the internet as their primary research tool.
Sheila wanted to find a way to reach these other groups. She called it moving away from "preaching to the choir" to the next tier of families that are looking at the "natural" appeal of home and water birth. They may be researching options to traditional in-hospital birth. Her secondary objectives were improving the site's design and layout, as well as the site's functionality and navigation. She was also interested in creating an online community. “Clients need to know that we are part of the community. Building relationships is our lifeline – it reinforces my commitment to the women and families I help by building bonds of trust between us,” says Sheila Simms Watson, LM, CPM, of Spirit of Life Traditional Midwifery, Inc.,
A blueprint for successful community building
In May 2010, Redberry Designs proudly announced the launch of a new site Spirit of Life Traditional Midwifery under the auspices of Sheila Simms Watson, Florida Licensed Midwife.
The website is an education resource for childbearing women seeking to have their babies at home with a licensed Florida midwife covering such topics as nutrition, exercise, tests, water birth, preparation for birth, the art and practice of traditional midwifery and holistic health.
The new site is also a resource to aid in the transfer of knowledge for women, spouses/partners, families, and to supplement education for midwives and birth workers. This site will provide the opportunity to learn more about the full range of services and care offered by Spirit of Life Traditional Midwifery.

This included identifying and sending "like" requests to targeted prospective clients, Sheila's exisiting Facebook personal friends and strategic business partners in traditional midwifery and home birth industry to increase Sheila's visibility. We posted original articles each week to Sheila's Facebook business page in the notes section. The articles contained specific keywords that are relevant to the traditional midwifery industry.

This included following strategically selected leaders in Traditional Midwifery and Home Birth industry to increase Sheila's visibility. Monthly we purge inactive or undesirable followers. From the start of the project , we create an informative custom twitter background, to get the account started and push out custom written tweets. Redberry Designs posted three to five tweets per week for Spirit Of Life Traditional Midwifery which were designed for brand development and to inspire action. Tweets generally had links back to the website. As well, we prepare a Monthly Analytics Reports with a recap of progress to enable our clients to track the effectiveness of Twitter marketing campaign.
